Aquatic and Community Center Project

10.14.22

By Sean Ward, Director of Parks & Recreation

Picture 3 of construction on the aquatic center property dated 10.4.22Fall is in the air.  Leaves turning colors and falling to the ground signify change is coming.  That same ground amassing piles of leaves is the start of the new, developing aquatic and community center site.  The site’s construction is quickly materializing, becoming a splendid visual locale for a destination that will emerge as the hub for the City of Mayfield Heights. For the last five months, the A.M. Higley Co. has made its base at the Marsol Road site with daily workers excavating and installing stormwater retention structures, sanitary piping, and water and electric lines.  The underground work is nearly completed and allows the crew to turn their attention towards the pump pit and surge tanks for the new pool, followed by foundation work for the pool and community center.

Driving by the site, the almost complete service yard adjacent to the aquatic and community center is noticeable.  This newly added portion of the Service Department is part of the overall project. The service yard is scheduled to be ready in time for fall leaf collection.  To help conceal this area, a buffer was added and will be flanked with trees and a fence to divide the service yard from the aquatic and community center. Currently, the entire site on Marsol Road is being prepped for the winter season, where continued development will be seen in the coming months in preparation for the opening in the summer of 2023.

The summer season has officially kicked off…sort of. Maybe not the date of the summer solstice, but at least the weather and atmosphere. Summer technically kicks off on June 21, but since the last project progress report, weather in Mayfield Heights has. Been. Hot! Invoking thoughts of blockbuster movies, summer camps, baseball and softball games, bike rides, and of course, jumping into the pool and spending afternoons soaking up rays.

Much like the daffodils bloom, the pool is sprouting toys!

The pool opening date is in limbo, that we know.  However…looking ever so closely, much like the daffodils bloom, the pool is sprouting toys.  It is one thing to speculate about the sheer wonders the new pool will bring.  It is another thing entirely to see them come into view.  With that, it is time to add to the imagination, giving more definition to what will eventually be in full bloom come mid-year.

Positivity and Confidence are Contagious

Storytime...

A well-respected colleague in the Parks and Recreation Office set an example of positivity and confidence daily till the day she retired. In fact, she had a signature three-letter word, a word probably spoken a hundred times a day by everyone without thought, but when she spoke it, it garnered positivity and confidence...WOW!
