1. Is there financial assistance available for home renovations?

Cuyahoga County Treasurer's Office: The Home Enhancement Loan Program (HELP) provides loans at 3% below normal bank rates for alterations, repair, maintenance or improvement to homes. It can also be used for code violation compliance and property upgrades. Call 216-443-2149 for more information.

Cuyahoga County Department of Development: Housing Rehabilitation Loan Program (HRLP) enables eligible low and moderate income homeowners to address major housing components (roof, electrical, furnace & plumbing) that have been compromised. For more information call 216-348-4066.

Cleveland Restoration Society: Heritage Home Program; Home Improvement and Maintenance Loans. If your home is over 50 years old, this program can help you maintain and repair it with free technical assistance and access to low-interest financing. For more information, call 216-426-3116.

2. Can you recommend a contractor for a project in my home?

The City cannot recommend a contractor. The Building Department can provide you with a list of contractors that are currently registered with City. For more information, call 440-442-2107. If you choose to hire a contractor that is not currently registered, they would have to register prior to starting a job that requires a permit. Better Business Bureau website

3. Are there any guidelines for hiring a snow plow contractor?

Contact the Building Department at 440-442-2107 before hiring a snow plow contractor to see if they have registered to work in the City. A list of those who are currently registered is also available.

4. What can I do about a neighbor who will not cut his/her grass?

Contact the Building Department at 440-442-2107 with the address of the house. An inspector will be assigned to the case.

5. Is a housing inspection necessary when I am selling my house?

A Point of Sale inspection is required before selling a house. An application must be filled out and submitted to the Building Department along with the $100.00 fee. At that time, an appointment will be scheduled. Point of Sale Applications are available here or in the Building Department office. For more information, call 440-442-2107.

6. What are the building codes in Mayfield Heights?

    2017 Ohio Mechanical Code (OMC) - Based on 2015 (IMC)
    2017 Ohio Fire Code (OFC)
    2017 Ohio Energy Code - OBC Chapter 13

RESIDENTIAL:
    2019 Ohio Residential Code of Ohio (RCO) (see 2019 changes below) (Based on 2018 Edition of the IRC)
    MEP's and Energy Code same as above.

2019 CHANGES TO THE RESIDENTIAL CODE OF OHIO (RCO):

The Ohio Board of Building Standards amended the Ohio Administrative Code (OAC) Chapters 4101:8-1 to 4101:8-44 (rescind and adopt new) to comply with the five-year rule review and to update the current Residential Code of Ohio to reflect the 2018 edition of the “International Residential Code” with Ohio amendments.
